"What I most enjoy about
American folk music is its easy accessibility to all ages and its
potential for bringing people together in song, story, humor and
fun. I’ve also found it to be a valuable teaching tool which can
relate to many topics in school and community. Concerts and
educational programs provide opportunities for both children and
adults to develop an awareness and appreciation of folk music and
to reaffirm our innate abilities as singers, dancers, players and
storytellers. Just as folksongs of other times reflected the
lives, happenings, and hopes of those people, today’s audiences
can learn to use this form of expression to share their own
experiences, opinions, and feelings without relying upon TV,
radio, videos, the internet or superstars."
